Around 60,000 spectators cheered for the Formula 1 race in Spielberg on Sunday. Winner Max Verstappen praised the “great atmosphere”.
Max Verstappen is the king of Spielberg. The Dutchman tied up the Styrian double, won as in the previous week and already holds four victories at the Red Bull Ring. A record!
Around 60,000 spectators cheered from the stands on Sunday, half of them in the camp of the World Cup leader. “The atmosphere was great. I think the fans have a lot of beer today,” smirked Verstappen. About his superior Triumph ride, he said: “It was great, I didn't expect it that way.” However, the 23-year-old is putting the brakes on euphoria. “The season is still long.”
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff sees it similarly. “Nothing has happened yet. One DNF ( failure, editor's note ) and it's our turn again.” Verstappen is 32 points ahead of defending champion Lewis Hamilton. The Brit says: “We have to improve the car. We gave everything for the last two weeks, but it didn't work.”
Until the upcoming race at Silverstone (GB) on July 18th, Wolff will be giving out the motto: “Learn, learn, learn. We have to understand what happened. I think we were closer than it looked.”
