Guyana and Venezuela agreed to create a joint commission to resolve the dispute.
Worldwide in 2023, 183 local and regional conflicts unfolded. Among them are Venezuela’s territorial claims to Guyana. There they reached important agreements on the disputed Essequibo region. The parties decided that they would not use each other’s forces and would create a joint commission to resolve the territorial conflict.
This was stated by the Presidents of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and Guyana Irfaan Ali after a one-day summit on December 14 , writes CNN.
As Guyana demands, the dispute must be resolved by the International Court of Justice. Venezuela believes that the jurisdiction of this international court does not extend to the border dispute.
“The leaders of Venezuela and Guyana said on Thursday that they would not use force against each other in dispute over an oil-rich piece of Guyanese land and agreed to create a joint commission to resolve the territorial conflict,” notes CNN.

It will include delegations from both countries led by the foreign ministers. The purpose of the commission’s work is stated to be “resolving issues by mutual consent,” the message states. .
