Facebook in Russia faces a fine of one-twentieth to one-tenth of its annual turnover for repeated failure to delete prohibited information, the Vedomosti newspaper reports, citing the press service of Roskomnadzor. Facebook's Russian revenue is estimated at 12 billion rubles.
On October 4, Roskomnadzor summoned company representatives to draw up a protocol on violation of Russian law. After that, the document will be sent to the court, which will determine the amount of the fine.
In addition, the regulator intends to draw up a protocol for repeated offenses on Google LLC, which owns the video hosting YouTube. In this case, the amount of the fine will also be from one twentieth to one tenth of the proceeds.
“The video hosting YouTube systematically does not fulfill the requirements for the removal of materials containing information prohibited in the Russian Federation. Since 2014, more than 3 thousand illegal materials dangerous for Russian citizens have not been deleted, ”said a representative of Roskomnadzor. We are talking about suicidal, pro-drug, fake, extremist content, as well as child pornography.
In total, since the beginning of the year, Facebook has received fines in the amount of over 80 million rubles. for refusing to delete information about unauthorized actions and localize the data of Russian users. The amount of fines imposed by Russian courts against Google since the beginning of the year amounted to 39 million rubles. WhatsApp and Twitter were also fined.
