Former world boxing champion, State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev speculated about the possibility of Stanislav Cherchesov's resignation from the post of head coach of the Russian national football team. His words are quoted by Sport24.
“Did Cherchesov show himself to be a bad coach in other games? No. Under him, the national team has become better. It makes no sense for the fans to transfer their pain to the head of the coach, ”Valuev said. He added that Cherchesov bears some guilt for the crushing defeat of the Serbs, but there are no better candidates to replace him.
Cherchesov himself also spoke about a possible resignation after a devastating defeat from the Serbs, saying that this issue should not be addressed specifically to him. The coach stressed that his players started the tournament well and had an unsuccessful ending.
