Former world boxing champion and now State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev praised the criticism from former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb regarding the form of the Russian national hockey team. His words are quoted by Sport24.

Valuev refused to consider the retro outfit an offensive gesture towards Finland. “You can talk for a long time about this former prime minister's boozer. It is worth recalling that Finland emerged as a state thanks to the leader of the USSR, Ulyanov-Lenin, ”he objected.

On December 21, Stubb announced that the CCCP uniform symbolizes a regime that has killed millions of innocent people. He called this gesture offensive and not related to sports or anything else.

On December 19, the Russian national team lost to the national team of Finland and lost the Channel One Cup. As in the victorious matches against Canada, Sweden and the Czech Republic, Russian hockey players took to the ice in the form of the USSR. This is due to the fact that the Russian Ice Hockey Federation celebrates its 75th anniversary. In December 1946, the first matches of the national championship took place in the USSR.
