Toy maker Mattel loves to experiment and strives to produce Barbie dolls that reflect life. For example, in their collection there are dolls with different body types and even a Barbie in a hijab. This year, the company announced a replenishment of the assortment: a specialist in the field of virology and vaccinology will appear.
The creators of Barbie, the American company Mattel, have presented a new doll – the scientist Sarah Gilbert. She rose to fame after developing the Oxford coronavirus vaccine, according to BBC News.
At first, Professor Gilbert thought the idea was strange, but when she saw the doll, she thought it might be an inspiration for the kids.
“I want my doll to show children a career that they might not know about, such as a vaccinologist,”
The New Barbie is one of five dolls in a collection of professions from science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“I hope that the kids who see my Barbie will understand how vital a career in science is to help the world around them,”
Sarah Gilbert developed the AstraZeneca vaccine in 2020, which was later used in many countries around the world.
Mattel also produces Barbie dolls dedicated to the professions of firefighter, doctor and astronaut. For example, an Australian medic who helped create reusable clothing for medical workers and a Brazilian biomedical researcher have already been released.
