John Vanbisbrook, chief manager of the US youth team, spoke about the technical defeat in the World Youth Hockey Championship match against Switzerland. His words are quoted on the team's official Twitter page.
“We are extremely disappointed, especially upset for the players,” said Vanbisbroek. The specialist noted that the team followed the rules of the tournament from the very beginning and will continue to do everything so that the players can continue their performance at the World Championship.
Earlier on December 28, it became known that the match between the national teams of the United States and Switzerland was canceled after two cases of coronavirus infection were identified in the American team. In accordance with the rules of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the Americans were awarded a forfeit defeat. As a result of the game, the victory of Switzerland was fixed with a score of 1: 0.
The Russian national team plays in the same group with the USA and Switzerland. The match against the Americans is scheduled for the night of January 1. The Russians played with the Swiss on December 28. Domestic hockey players beat their rivals with a score of 4: 2.
The World Youth Hockey Championship is held from December 26 to January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada. Of the five teams in the group, four will advance to the playoffs.
