The United States will allocate $ 5 million to help victims of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. These funds will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross and other non-governmental organizations, said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is in Tbilisi on a two-day visit. This was reported on the website of the Washington Embassy in Georgia.
The humanitarian assistance provided by the Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development will support local efforts to provide food, shelter, and medical assistance to the population affected by the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Secretary of State welcomed the ceasefire between Yerevan and Baku and called on the parties to resume negotiations with the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as soon as possible in order to work out a lasting political solution to the conflict in the region. “We recognize the contributions of our partners in the international community and call on other governments to join in supporting these efforts,” the statement said.
