The new US administration refused to lift the sanctions against Russia, imposed due to the events in Ukraine, and to recognize Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation. This was stated by the representative of the American mission to the UN Rodney Hunter, reports TASS.
“We will never recognize Russia's attempt to annex Crimea. As a result, the US sanctions against Russia for actions in Ukraine will remain in force until Moscow revises its course, ”he stressed.
He also accused Moscow of allegedly having a military presence in Ukraine and pledged to continue to support Kiev. “The United States intends to continue to support its Ukrainian partners in their efforts to restore the country's territorial integrity,” Hunter added.
Earlier in January, U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan spoke of his refusal to ease sanctions against Moscow over Crimea. According to him, the problem related to actions in Ukraine remains a priority for the US administration.
Anti-Russian sanctions by the United States, the European Union and a number of other countries were introduced in connection with the entry of Crimea into Russia in 2014 and the aggravation of the situation in southeastern Ukraine. Economic restrictions are regularly extended.
