USA extended travel ban to DPRK for one year

The US State Department has extended the travel ban on American citizens to North Korea until August 31, 2022, the Associated Press reports.

“The State Department has determined that US citizens continue to face a serious risk of arrest and prolonged detention, posing an immediate threat to their physical safety,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Recall that the ban was first introduced in 2017 by then Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Earlier, the head of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, said that Pyongyang was forced to develop nuclear weapons because of the threat from the imperialist forces. The chairman of the DPRK State Council also noted that the country's main enemy is Washington. He stressed that North Korean nuclear deterrence is aimed at self-defense.

It was also reported that the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Ye-jong demanded that the US authorities stop military exercises in Washington and Seoul on the Korean Peninsula.
