The US State Department said that the United States, together with its allies, are considering the option of completely isolating Russia from the world financial system. This was stated by Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, RIA Novosti reports.
According to her, this step will have implications for the business and population of Russia, as well as the opportunities of the country's residents for work, travel and trade. The American diplomat stressed that in an effort to keep Moscow from aggression, Washington is considering all available options. At the same time, Nuland added that unprecedented sanctions could be introduced in stages. “On the first day, fifth, tenth,” she explained.
Earlier, during online talks, US President Joe Biden warned Russian leader Vladimir Putin about economic and other measures in the event of a military escalation in Ukraine. According to a statement from the US presidential administration, Biden also expressed to Putin the concern of the US and its European allies with a build-up of Russian military forces near Ukraine's borders.
