Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held a telephone conversation, during which they decided on the basis for further dialogue with Russia. This was reported by the press service of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

Politicians discussed the current security situation in Europe, including the escalation of Russia's actions towards Ukraine, the report says. Rau and Blinken concluded that the dialogue with the Russian side should be based on diplomacy and deterrence, and should also take place in close and complete coordination between the allies.

In addition, the ministers stressed the need to “preserve the unity, cohesion and solidarity of the international community in relation to the aggressive position of the Kremlin” and reaffirmed that any further military aggression would have serious consequences for Russia.

Earlier, Washington promised to protect its NATO allies in Eastern Europe and, in the event of a Russian attack, to apply Article 5 of the alliance's charter. This was stated by US President Joe Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan during a conversation with his colleague from Poland Pavel Solokh.
