Treasury Secretary Yellen warned of global consequences for sanctions against Russia

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that if Western countries impose new sanctions against Russia, “global consequences” will be inevitable. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“We recognize that the sanctions will have some global implications,” the minister said, adding that the agency is working with European partners to develop a range of financial sanctions that could affect individuals and companies and “could certainly include export controls.”
The Treasury Secretary said Washington is working with European allies to protect them as effectively as possible from the “adverse impact” of sanctions in an effort to secure energy supplies to the continent.
Earlier, the US Senate promised to fully support the imposition of sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation of tensions around Ukraine. The document notes that in the event of a violation of the sovereignty of Ukraine, Russia must “pay a high price.”
