The US must work with Russia in the Arctic to combat climate change and “block China's expansion” in the region, journalist Henry-Nicholas Grossman said in a piece published in The National Interest.
In his opinion, the PRC authorities have “colonial ambitions” in the Arctic and are trying to consolidate their presence there. Grossman is confident that the Russian side “will be happy to limit its relations with China to commercial projects in the Arctic.”
The journalist believes that Washington needs a new form of cooperation with Moscow in the Arctic. According to him, Russia is restoring its military presence in the region. “The Arctic is more important to Russia than to the United States because 53 percent of the Arctic coast is on Russian soil,” Grossman said.
Not hypersonic missiles, but nuclear-powered icebreakers of Project 10520 (10521) of the “Arctic” type are the most powerful weapon of Russia in the Arctic, writes the American edition
In June, in one of the publications of The National Interest, it was argued that the nuclear-powered icebreakers of Project 10520 (10521) of the “Arctic” type are Russia's most powerful weapon in the Arctic. It was noted that Russia is one of the most prepared countries for global warming, since it has such ships at its disposal. The advantages of the “Arktika” type icebreakers in the magazine are the design of the double hull, which allows crushing the ice without damaging the ship itself, as well as the shape of the bow (rounded stem) of the nuclear-powered ship and the possibility of melting the ice by injecting steam jets.
