US to launch new missile early warning satellites
The U.S. Space Force is considering launching digital prototype early warning satellites for missile launches in 2022. Reported by The Drive.
It is assumed that the satellites will be placed in a lower orbit than geostationary. This will make it possible to monitor the launches of cruise ballistic and hypersonic missiles. It will also improve the accuracy and fault tolerance of the system.
The new satellites will be equipped with a new generation of continuous infrared radiation (OPIR). Raytheon and Boeing will be the developers of spacecraft prototypes. In May of this year, the military signed contracts with them to create digital models of the Missile Track Custody Prototype (MTCP) satellites.
By 2022, the United States plans to deploy an orbital grouping of spacecraft in near space, designed to protect against the strikes of hypersonic missiles of a potential enemy.
