The United States plans to deploy missiles on China's neighboring islands. Over the next six years, the US authorities could allocate $ 27.3 billion for this, according to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei.
According to the publication, the Indo-Pacific Command of the US Armed Forces sent a request to the US Congress. It is assumed that the network of high-precision missiles will be deployed on the islands located in the East China and South China Seas. Such a step, as conceived by the military, will help contain China in the region.
It is reported that the military is proposing to deploy ground-to-ship missiles with a range of about 200 kilometers on unmanned vehicles and scatter them across the islands. This will increase the mobility of such systems and avoid their massive destruction in case of an attack from China.
Military maneuvers by the United States and China in the East China and South China Seas often become a source of tension in relations between the two countries. In November 2020, American political scientist Christopher Lane even warned that Washington and Beijing were on a course of armed confrontation.
