US Citizenship and Immigration Services USA announced the suspension of the program for Ukrainians fleeing to the United States from war United for Ukraine (U4U).
“In response to the January 20, 2025, 'Securing Our Borders' Executive Order, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is suspending the acceptance of Form I-134A, the Online Request for Support, and the Declaration of Financial Support,” the agency said.
The service has suspended the acceptance of applications until it has reviewed all requests that have already been submitted, the statement said.
Recall that on January 25, The New York Times reported that The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has suspended the U4U program, and shelter applications under this program will not be considered for now. The newspaper cited a directive contained in an email sent by a senior US Citizenship and Immigration Services official on January 23, which was reviewed by the newspaper.
On January 20, President Donald Rump signed an executive order entitled “Securing Our Borders”. In it, among other things, the president instructed the Secretary of Homeland Security to adjust asylum programs for people arriving in the United States and to stop asylum programs that are contrary to US policy.
