U.S. Supreme Court upholds gay and transgender rights at work

The US Supreme Court ruled that it would be a violation of the law to fire an employee for being gay or trans. It is reported by “BBC”.

The court ruled that the federal law, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, also applies to sexual orientation and gender identity.

Many legal experts have argued that the 1964 act is hardly applicable to contemporary issues in the LGBT community. The administration of US President Donald Trump has supported this position.

Earlier, U.S. diplomatic missions in India and South Korea displayed LGBT flags despite the Trump administration's ban. In addition, several consulates posted similar symbols on their official Internet pages.

In June, the United States celebrates Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. The commemorative date was chosen in connection with clashes between representatives of sexual minorities and police in New York in 1969. A decree to celebrate Lesbian and Gay Rights Month was signed in 2000.
