USA Tests Powerful Hypersonic Missile/AP

The US Air Force has successfully tested the ARRW hypersonic missile. It happened on July 12 off the coast of California.

According to sources, the US Army successfully tested an air-launched rapid response launch vehicle.

“Hypersonic” refers to missiles that develop a speed of at least 5 times the speed of sound (335 meters per second – channel 24), that is, more than 6100 kilometers per hour. They are considered highly manoeuvrable and capable of operating at various altitudes.

“This second successful test demonstrates the ARRW's ability to achieve and maintain operational hypersonic speeds, collect critical data for use in subsequent flight tests, and confirm safe separation from the aircraft,” – write the media.

Air Force Brigadier Heath Collins, Program Executive Officer at the Bureau of Ordnance, said: “We have now completed our series of booster tests and are ready to move on to a comprehensive test later this year.”

Curious! Success Report test of a hypersonic missile came amid fears that Russia and China have moved further in developing their own hypersonic missiles.

We add that US military officials announced the use of hypersonic missiles by Russia during hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, as well as testing of hypersonic weapons by China.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in October denied reports of such tests.

Sanctions have led to the fact that 133 electronic components of the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system, manufactured in the USA, Japan and Ukraine, have ceased to be supplied to Russia. Therefore, in the near future, the development program for these missiles may turn.

What is known about the ARRW missile

  • This is a hypersonic, solid-propellant rocket system developed by Lockheed Martin,
  • < li>It is being created to arm the B-52N and B-1B: each side is capable of carrying four missiles.

  • The warhead can be either nuclear or non-nuclear (presumably based on the PBXN-110). According to the US Air Force, the missile should fly up to 1,600 kilometers and be able to develop a warhead speed of Mach 6.5 – 8.
