USA Tests Powerful Hypersonic Missile/AP
The US Air Force has successfully tested the ARRW hypersonic missile. It happened on July 12 off the coast of California.
According to sources, the US Army successfully tested an air-launched rapid response launch vehicle.
“Hypersonic” refers to missiles that develop a speed of at least 5 times the speed of sound (335 meters per second – channel 24), that is, more than 6100 kilometers per hour. They are considered highly manoeuvrable and capable of operating at various altitudes.
“This second successful test demonstrates the ARRW's ability to achieve and maintain operational hypersonic speeds, collect critical data for use in subsequent flight tests, and confirm safe separation from the aircraft,” – write the media.
Air Force Brigadier Heath Collins, Program Executive Officer at the Bureau of Ordnance, said: “We have now completed our series of booster tests and are ready to move on to a comprehensive test later this year.”
