Trump announced the introduction of new duties on energy products and goods from China to stop drug trafficking.

The introduction of additional duties on goods from Canada, Mexico and China was the first step in the trade war initiated by US President Donald Trump.

This is written about in the materials of Reuters, The Washington Post, and the message of the US President on the social network Truth Social.

The new increase in duties will come into force on Tuesday at 19.01 Kyiv time. According to the information, the tariffs provide for: 25% duties on most goods from Canada and Mexico, 10% on imports from China (in addition to the existing duties of up to 25%), and 10% on energy products, including crude oil from Canada.

According to the American leader, the introduction of new duties is necessary to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking, including the supply of fentanyl to the United States.

“We must protect Americans, and it is my responsibility as president to keep everyone safe. In my campaign, I promised to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs crossing our borders, and the American people overwhelmingly voted for it,” he said.

Fentanyl supplies from China are getting into to the United States via Mexico and Canada due to their inadequate border security, Donald Trump claims. He also accused China of violating its commitments to reduce fentanyl production and said that the Chinese Communist Party facilitated the supply of this dangerous substance to the United States.

Recall that earlier we wrote that US President Donald Trump is likely planning to impose a tariff on the European Union.
