US shares plans to leave troops in Europe

by alex

The United States intends to leave its troops in Europe while reconsidering the disposition of its forces in foreign countries. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin shared these plans, discussing US-NATO cooperation, in a column for The Washington Post.

According to him, the United States, like other NATO member countries, must rethink how their forces are located. However, this does not mean that American troops will be removed from Europe. Austin stressed that the Biden administration, on the contrary, has suspended the reduction of the American contingent in Germany begun by his predecessor Donald Trump.

The minister stressed that the American authorities will coordinate all actions with partners, as they are determined to revive cooperation and active leadership among the countries of the world. He said that against the backdrop of the aggressive behavior of strategic rivals – China and Russia – NATO's collective security is of particular relevance.

During his presidential term, Donald Trump took a different position on the alliance: he demanded that US partners invest more in defense budgets and threatened to withdraw American troops from a number of European countries.
