US Senate approves transgender person as Assistant Secretary

Rachel Levine

The US Senate has approved transgender woman Rachel Levin to the post of Assistant Secretary of Health for the country. This is evidenced by the results of the vote, RIA Novosti reports.

It is noted that Levin became the first transgender person in the United States to hold such a high post. It was reported back in January that US President Joe Biden would appoint Rachel Levin, a physician to the Assistant Secretary of Health. Prior to being offered the senior office, Levine headed the Pennsylvania health system as appointed by the Democrat governor and led the state's fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Rachel Levine has identified herself as a man in the past, was married and had two children. However, in 2011, she changed her sex, and two years later she divorced.
