There is a demand in the world for America's leadership, since it is better than others able to unite other countries around itself to combat global challenges, said the new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during his welcoming speech at the State Department. The speech was broadcast by Reuters.

According to the diplomat, the world community is closely watching the new administration and is trying to understand whether it will stake on cooperation with allies and partners to overcome common challenges – the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, economic crisis, as well as threats to security and stability from Washington's opponents.

“The world needs America to lead. And we will play it, because together with the United States, the world is much more likely to be able to solve the existing problems and respond to the emerging challenges, “Blinken said. The Secretary of State added that America is best able to unite other countries around itself in the name of the common good.

Earlier, the US Senate supported Blinken's candidacy for the post of Secretary of State proposed by US President Joe Biden. The new top US diplomat, like many other members of the new administration, has long worked with Democratic President Biden. In particular, he was the second person in the State Department during the presidency of Barack Obama – Biden then served as vice president.
