US scientists have found a way to cleanse the body of old cells
Scientists from the United States have found a mechanism that helps the body cleanse itself of aging cells. The discovery was made by researchers from the University of California, MedicalXpress writes with reference to the study.
Experts have found that immune cells cleanse the body of those that contribute to aging and the development of chronic diseases. In particular, the so-called natural killer T cells (iNKT) work like a surveillance system. They remove cells that the body perceives as foreign, including aging cells.
With age, the activity of the system decreases. Experiments on laboratory mice have shown that lipid antigens must be used to activate iNKT, the researchers said. In this way, in mice with lung fibrosis, it was possible to reduce cell damage, and the life expectancy of animals also increased.
Meanwhile in the Netherlands, scientists said bees could detect coronavirus. For melliferous insects, it is enough to dip the proboscis in a blood sample.
