The United States responded to allegations of involvement in unsanctioned protests in Russia, stating that Washington had nothing to do with it. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced this in an interview with NBC.
“The Russian government is deeply mistaken if it believes that this is related to us. It has to do with them. With the government, ”he said.
The US Secretary of State also noted that he was revising the response to the situation with Alexei Navalny in the context of other aspects of relations with Russia.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) asked the American authorities to stop interfering in Moscow's internal affairs. The Foreign Ministry noted that the actions aimed at encouraging protests are part of the strategy of containing Russia.
On January 31, rallies were held in Russia for the second time in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny ( founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation – FBK, included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent ). The rallies were held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Yakutsk and other large cities.
According to law enforcement agencies, about two thousand people took to the streets of Moscow. Last time, on January 23, twice the number was officially announced – four thousand.
