The American ambassador left the Russian Foreign Ministry without comment.

On Thursday, February 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry transmitted the US response on the so-called “security guarantees.”

This is reported by Russian news agencies.

At about 15:00 Moscow time (14:00 Kiev time), US Ambassador John Sullivan arrived at the premises of the Russian Foreign Ministry. After 15 minutes, he left the Russian Foreign Ministry without commenting to journalists on the purpose of his visit.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would transmit its responses to the United States today in electronic and paper form. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also promised that the answer would be made public a few hours after it was sent to Washington.

The US State Department confirmed that they had received Russian responses.

“We can confirm that we have received a response from the Russian Federation. She was delivered after Sullivan in Moscow today,” an unnamed senior US State Department official told CNN.

The full text of the US and NATO responses to Russia's proposed so-called “security guarantees” appeared three weeks ago in the Spanish newspaper El País. This document outlines the general areas in which the US and NATO are ready to cooperate with Russia. This, in particular, concerns arms control, risk reduction and deployment of missile systems.

Let's remind, earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has refused to accept the answers concerning “security guarantees” sent by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell.
