Ten former US defense ministers called on the US military not to get involved in the disputes over the presidential elections and to facilitate the transfer of power to the US Democratic candidate Joe Biden. The corresponding open letter of the former heads of the Pentagon was published in The Washington Post.
The ex-ministers noted that the elections in the United States have taken place and “the time to question the results has passed.” The letter says that attempts to involve the United States military in resolving disputes related to elections will lead to “dangerous, illegal and unconstitutional territory.”
“Civil and military officials who order or implement such measures will be held accountable, including potentially subject to criminal penalties due to the seriousness of the consequences of their actions,” the message says.
Earlier, the Pentagon announced its support of Democrat Joe Biden during the transfer of power. The defense department said they would immediately begin to implement measures as part of the process of transferring power to the new US administration, headed by Biden.
On November 3, 2020, the next presidential elections were held in the United States. The counting of votes and the proceedings on this issue are still ongoing. According to the media, Biden received the necessary number of electoral votes to win, thus surpassing the current American leader Donald Trump. The democrat has already proclaimed himself US President-elect. Trump, in turn, said that Biden was in a hurry to call himself the country's new leader.
