An international coalition led by the United States on Tuesday, January 4, struck firing positions in the province of Deir ez-Zor in northeastern Syria due to an “imminent threat.” This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the coalition.
The statement noted that coalition forces monitored several sites for the launch of indirect missiles.
According to the coalition, there was an “imminent threat” in the vicinity of the Green Village (military base) in Syria. “Acting in self-defense, the coalition forces launched strikes in order to eliminate the threat,” the message says. The press service also added that undirected attacks pose a serious threat to the civilian population of Syria, and can also provoke mass casualties.
The international coalition noted that it reserves the right to “defend itself and partners in the face of any threat.”
Earlier on January 4, it was reported that two Syrian soldiers were injured as a result of mortar shelling of militants of the terrorist group Jebhat al-Nusra banned in Russia in the province of Latakia.
