US launches largest naval exercise in 40 years
The United States on Tuesday begins the largest naval exercise in the last 40 years with the participation of 36 ships and the Marine Corps in 17 time zones, TASS reports from the command of the US Sixth Fleet.
The exercises are designed to demonstrate to the US rivals the combat readiness of the country's armed forces. They will also test the skills of commanders in conducting a variety of naval operations at the tactical and strategic levels. The participation of the Marine Corps will demonstrate the fleet's ability to conduct joint operations both in the open ocean and in coastal waters.
Earlier it was reported that Russia and Tajikistan will conduct joint exercises amid the complication of the situation in Afghanistan. They will be held from 5 to 10 August at the training ground in the Khatlon region. The joint exercises between Russia and Tajikistan are aimed at checking the readiness of forces and means in case of a further escalation of the conflict in Afghanistan.
