Other countries are also starting brace for a massive influx of people previously in the United States illegally.
On Friday, January 24, the United Nations responded to the deportations, reminding Washington that the right to asylum is “universally recognized.”
“All States have the right to exercise jurisdiction along their international borders… but must do so in a manner consistent with their human rights obligations,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
She recalled that the right to seek asylum is a universally recognized human right.
Donald Trump promised a broad crackdown on illegal immigrants during his campaign and began his second term on Monday with a series of executive orders aimed at stopping them flow into the United States. He declared a “state of emergency” on the southern border with Mexico, announced the deployment of troops, and promised to deport “criminal aliens.”
