The United States imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as well as a number of other members of the Russian Security Council. This is stated in a widespread statement by the United States Department of the Treasury, TASS reports.
“Today, the United States, in coordination with allies and partners, continued to provide a strong response to Russia’s unwarranted, unprovoked and pre-planned invasion of Ukraine and imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as well as other members of the Russian Security Council,” said in the document.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his intention to impose sanctions against the Russian president and foreign minister. However, he acknowledged that the sanctions against Putin are only symbolic, since he is unlikely to have any property in Canada.
