The US imposed sanctions on Belarus. This is stated on the website of the US Treasury Department.
As noted, the restrictions apply to eight Belarusian citizens, all of them are civil servants. Their assets in the United States will be blocked, and American citizens from this moment are prohibited from doing business with them.
Washington imposes sanctions against the Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus Yuri Karaev, as well as his deputies Alexander Barsukov and Yuri Nazarenko. The official blacklist also includes the head of the capital's OMON, Dmitry Balaba, the deputy commander of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Khazalbek Atabekov, and the head of the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee Ivan Kubrakov.
In addition, employees of the Central Election Commission of Belarus were also subject to restrictions. Vadim Ipatov and CEC secretary Elena Dmukhaylo were included in the list of CEC Chairman.
Earlier on October 2, the EU introduced sanctions against Belarus. They will affect 40 Belarusian officials. The President of the country Alexander Lukashenko was not included in the list, as this would mean a refusal of the European leaders to dialogue with him.
In Belarus, for the second month, mass protests continue over the official results of the presidential elections on August 9, according to which Lukashenka won 80 percent of the vote.
