US government accuses Facebook of discriminating against US workers

The US Department of Justice accuses Facebook of discriminating against American workers in favor of foreigners. In 2018 and 2019, several thousand jobs went to holders of US visas for temporary employment in the USA, without Americans being able to apply, according to the lawsuit published on Thursday. A Facebook spokesman told the Wall Street Journal that the company dismissed the allegation.

With the so-called H1-B visas, highly qualified foreign specialists can come to the USA – and with the help of the companies they can also apply for a permanent residence permit. They have long been a thorn in the side of US President Donald Trump. For American tech companies, however, they are important in order to attract the best experts from around the world as well as foreign graduates from US universities.
