The US Treasury Department has expanded the list of sanctions against Iran to include Judges Shiraz Seyed Mahmoud Sadati and Mashhad Mohammad Soltani. This is stated on the website of the department.

Also included in the list were a branch of the courts in Shiraz and three local prisons – Adel-Abad, Orumie and Vakilabad, follows from the message.

According to Reuters, the US special envoy for Iran and Venezuela, Elliot Abrams, explained that the sanctions were imposed on Sadati, as he sentenced the 27-year-old Iranian fighter Navid Afkari to death.

On September 13, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemned the Iranian authorities for the execution of Afkari. According to him, the execution of the death sentence is “a heinous and cruel act.” Iranian authorities executed the athlete despite appeals from the international community, including US President Donald Trump, and Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) head Dana White.

Afkari was sentenced to death on September 2. The 27-year-old received two death sentences for participating in anti-government rallies in 2018. The Human Rights Activists News Agency writes that the fighter was tortured to force him to confess to the crimes.
