US Embassy Kabul officials destroy passports of several Afghans – CNN
Employees of the American embassy in Afghanistan destroyed the passports of a number of citizens of the republic when they destroyed documents and equipment on the eve of evacuation, CNN reports.
At the office of Congressman Andy Kim, the channel was told that visa receptions at the US Embassy had been canceled. In this regard, the passports of Afghan citizens, which the diplomatic mission had, were destroyed.
It is assumed that the documents were eliminated so that their owners did not become victims of the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
Congressman Tom Malinovsky, in turn, noted that now the US authorities will have to check people without passports in a different way, for example, by their phone numbers.
“In many cases, we know their contact details and phone numbers, and thus we will have to identify them,” he said.
Let us remind you that the situation in Afghanistan has worsened against the background of the withdrawal of the US military contingent from the country. On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul and took full control of the city within hours.
Earlier, the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, said that the American authorities intend to use all available opportunities to take out of the republic their allies from among the citizens of Afghanistan who have found themselves “in a vulnerable position.”
