A resident of the United States, whose name, gender and age were not disclosed, filed a lawsuit in a New York court demanding that the restrictions on incestuous marriages be declared illegal.
According to the plaintiff, stated in the statement of claim, marriage with one's own child may pursue “higher transcendental goals” and is not obliged to lead to the appearance of children.
– Thanks to the strong bonds of marriage, two people, no matter what relationship they previously had with each other, can find a greater level of self-expression, intimacy and spirituality. – the statement says.
It is known that the child, with whom the parent dreams of marriage, is already an adult and has the right to make independent decisions, reports the New York Post.
At the moment, incestuous marriages in New York are considered a crime, which entails fines for both spouses, as well as possible imprisonment for up to four years. In addition, such marriages are officially considered invalid.
The lawyers noted that the lawsuit in the case of recognizing the prohibition of incest as illegal is premature, since the couple must first try to obtain a marriage license in court and only after refusing to file a relevant claim.
The city legal department said they had not heard of such a trial yet.
