US decisions on ATACMS: FT released new details

by alex

The country decided to refrain from public statements.

The administration of US President Joe Biden announced the provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine ATACMS missiles. The decision was made before the visit of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to the United States, but it was not announced.

The Financial Times reported this, citing sources.

What is known

According to FT sources, the information should not have reached the Russians. This was necessary so that the enemy did not have time to move his supply lines as far as possible from the front line.

Previously, the missiles will arrive to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the near future. However, it is noted that at first these will be small batches.

It is known that we are talking about a version of the missiles armed with cluster munitions, and not with a single warhead. The publication adds that this will reassure some US officials about the possible depletion of American reserves.

The Washington Post previously reported that the White House is close to a decision to provide ATACMS to Ukraine. Thus, US President Joe Biden told Vladimir Zelensky that the country would provide Ukraine with a small number of long-range ATACMS missiles for the first time.
