A committee of the American Congress investigating the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 will check phone calls made by former US President Donald Trump before the riots. This was stated by the head of the committee, Benny Thompson, reports The Guardian.

According to the newspaper, we are talking about calls to the Willard Hotel in Washington. Journalists note that between the evening of January 5 and the morning of January 6, Trump contacted the hotel several times. Media outlets suggest he wanted to talk with supporters about ways to protest incumbent President Joe Biden's election victory.

On December 21, it became known that a US court sentenced another participant in the January protests in Washington. For example, 28-year-old American Devlin Thomson received three years and ten months in prison for attacking police guards during the riots in the US Congress building.

The storming of the American Capitol building took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of former US President Donald Trump, who did not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in the election of Democrat Joe Biden as the next head of state. The protests led to widespread clashes with police. As a result, five people were killed and dozens were detained.
