Ukraine’s key partner – the United States – is on the verge of a shutdown.
The growing popularity of Donald Trump against the backdrop of the upcoming elections in the USA is the main reason why the American Parliament temporarily blocked military aid to Ukraine.
POLITICO writes about this.
“American voters are gradually getting tired of the war in Ukraine, and this will be felt during the election campaign in the United States. And Trump is actively playing on this with his promise “as president, end the war within 24 hours.” Obviously, this phrase hints at significant concessions from Ukraine. And Trump's popularity is pushing other Republicans to pursue policies in the same vein. In this way, they hope to gain points in the electoral field of those who believe that the United States is giving too much to Kiev. Because the number of such among voters is expected to only grow.” , writes the publication.
The argument that supporting Ukraine means protecting democracy as such is unconvincing for some Americans. More precisely, they don’t think about it.
However, there is concern among Ukrainian parliamentarians and officials. Most of all in Ukraine they are worried that the issue of assistance to Kyiv will become a factor in domestic politics in the United States.
Remember:
The United States approved a temporary budgetthat does not include assistance to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden signed the document. At the same time, he said that the United States will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine and called on Congress to quickly agree on the allocation of funds for these purposes.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that Ukrainian authorities are now working with their American partners to ensure that the new US budget decision, which will be finalized over the next 45 days, includes funds for Ukraine.
Subsequently, Joe Biden< /strong> expressed concern that the Republican fight in Congress could harm aid to Ukraine, and promised to soon give a “big speech” to explain why the United States should continue to support Ukraine in the war with Russia.
Biden also suggested that there might be “another way” to support Kiev if Congress does not approve it. He did not provide details.
The White House confirmed that the administration of US President Joe Biden spent more than $100 billion on the war in Ukraine. Fox News journalists gained access to the relevant documents on September 12.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov spoke with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on October 1. According to him, in this conversation he received assurance that Ukrainian soldiers will continue to have strong support on the battlefield.
