The US President noted the need to provide assistance to Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden said that American support for Ukraine cannot be interrupted under any circumstances. This is how he responded to the adoption of a project to temporarily finance the government for a period of 45 days, which does not contain funding for assistance to Ukraine.
Biden’s corresponding statement was published on the White House website.
“While the Speaker and the vast majority of Congress have been steadfast in their support for Ukraine, this agreement does not include any new funding to extend that support. We cannot, under any circumstances, allow American support for Ukraine to be disrupted. I expect the Speaker to maintain his commitment to the people of Ukraine and will ensure that the support needed to help Ukraine at this critical moment is accepted,” the statement said.
Biden emphasized that bipartisan majorities in the House and Senate voted to keep the government running, preventing ” an unnecessary crisis that would cause unnecessary pain to millions of hardworking Americans.”
Let us remind you:
The House of Representatives of the US Congress by 335 votes to 91 adopted a resolution to extend the government funding period by 45 days. The bill does not include funds for aid to Ukraine, as reported by the Washington Post.
One Democrat and 90 Republicans are reported to have voted against the bill.
“The short-term funding bill would cover relief funds during natural disasters, extension of the federal flood insurance program and reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration, but not assistance to Ukraine,” journalists noted.
It was previously reported that the United States proposed to refuse assistance to Ukraine in order to avoid a shutdown — temporary partial shutdown of US government agencies. A shutdown occurs when the government fails to pass funding legislation for the following year or a temporary funding measure.
