US Bombers Fly to Indian Ocean: Is a Strike on Iran Possible?

by alex

The United States has sent B-2 Spirit strategic bombers to a base in the Indian Ocean.

B-2 Spirit Bomber

Amid Israel's war with Iran, the US is deploying B-2 Spirit bombers that can destroy underground facilities.

The aircraft took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and were accompanied by eight KC-135 Stratotanker tanker aircraft, the UK Defence Journal reported.

Two groups of four tanker aircraft were already linking up with the bombers over Kansas.

The United States has already sent dozens of aircraft to the Middle East in recent weeks, including fighter jets, tankers and reconnaissance aircraft. Two US Navy supercarriers are also participating in the operation, along with other elements of the navy and air force.

American B-2 Spirit: What Kind of Plane Is It?

The B-2 Spirit is a stealth bomber specifically designed for long-range strike missions and large-scale attacks on underground facilities.

It can carry both conventional and nuclear munitions, such as the 13-tonne Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bunker buster bomb, designed to destroy targets underground.

The bomber can carry two of these munitions at once, allowing it to hit fortified buildings in one sortie.

In addition, the aircraft is capable of flying more than 10 thousand kilometers without refueling.

The UK Defence Journal notes that there is no indication yet of a strike, but suggests that the Fordow facility, an important part of Iran's nuclear programme, could be a possible target.

The main halls of Fordow are located at a depth of 80-90 meters underground, which makes it invulnerable to any aerial bomb, and also makes it impossible to destroy it from the air.

Let us recall that on the night of June 21, Israel attacked Iran. Loud explosions occurred in several Iranian cities.

Meanwhile, Iranian drones broke through Israeli air defenses and reached targets in the north and south of the country.
