The United States added Russia to the list of countries with which arms trafficking is completely prohibited. This was reported by the US State Department, RIA Novosti reports.
We are talking about both the export and import of weapons, the decision will be in effect from March 18. On the black list, Russia neighbors countries such as Afghanistan, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Sudan.
“It is US policy to refuse to issue licenses or other permits for the export of defense products and defense services destined for Russia,” the statement said. Exceptions are made only for the sphere of space cooperation.
Earlier, the United States announced new trade sanctions that will take effect on March 18. They will concern exports related to national security. In addition, there will be a number of restrictions on aviation, space and things produced for American companies in Russia.
The United States imposed sanctions, as it believes that Russia is involved in two cases of the use of chemical weapons: the first concerns the situation around Alexei Navalny ( founder of the Anti-Corruption Fund, included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent ), the second – the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughters in the UK. Russia denies all such accusations.
