US Attorney General advised to accuse rioters of attempted coup

William Barr

US Attorney General William Barr has advised the country's federal attorneys to be as strict as possible when bringing charges against rioters, including charges of attempted coup. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources.

During a service meeting, Barr allegedly warned district attorneys about the possibility of escalating protests over the upcoming November 3 presidential election. The attorney general urged to accuse the protesters who resorted to violence, to the fullest extent of federal laws. Barr called it possible to regard the actions of some Americans as a conspiracy against the state and an attempt to carry out a coup.

In the United States, protests have been taking place for several months, engulfing dozens of American cities. Their members fight the systematic oppression and police brutality of US blacks. Demonstrations, periodically turning into pogroms with attacks on government officials, began after the African American George Floyd was killed during a brutal detention.
