The Schiller Institute spokesman in New York, Richard Black, in an interview with TASS, called on NATO and the United States to stop “surrounding Russia” and accept its security guarantees. Thus, he commented on the January 30 talks between Russian and American presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden.
“It is quite obvious that the encirclement of Russia, including through nuclear weapons, is driving the country into a corner. The danger of a regional conflict developing into a nuclear war is very high, ”the expert emphasized.
According to Black, a situation similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis is currently being observed in the world, only now the West is deploying advanced weapons on the ground, in the sea and in the air near the Russian borders.
The expert emphasized the importance of the early conclusion of agreements on security guarantees, since in this case Moscow, Washington and NATO will be able to start multilateral cooperation and respond to the key challenges of our time. Among these, he named the coronavirus pandemic, international terrorism and drug trafficking, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.
On December 30, a telephone conversation took place between the leaders of Russia and the United States. In total, the dialogue lasted 50 minutes. According to the aide to the President of Russia Yuri Ushakov, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue, in general, the American counterpart reacted seriously and logically to the point of view of the Russian leader, and he, in turn, stressed several times the main provisions that Moscow adheres to.
