US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan described the state of affairs in relations between Moscow and Washington. TASS reports.
The American representative said that he was surprised how much the relations between the states had deteriorated recently. Sullivan recalled the visit of the former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Moscow in 2017. “He [Tillerson] said that we had reached the bottom of the relationship, but (…) we must stop digging this hole. Unfortunately, over the past three and a half years, the pit between us has only increased, ”the ambassador said.
At the same time, Sullivan did not see the prospects for the development of dialogue, explaining this by the policy pursued by Moscow. As an example, he noted the situation with Alexei Navalny and Russia's interference in the American elections.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the situation with the hospitalization of Alexei Navalny could be used by Western countries as an excuse to increase sanctions pressure on Russia
Alexey Navalny felt unwell during the flight from Tomsk to Moscow on August 20. The plane urgently landed in Omsk, where doctors from a local hospital provided assistance for two days. After that, Navalny was transported to the Berlin clinic “Charite”. Two and a half weeks later, on September 10, Navalny completely recovered, on September 14 he was disconnected from the ventilator, and on September 22 he was discharged.
