US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan believes that Russia and the United States do not need to reset their relations. He stated this on Saturday, January 30, in an interview with “Dozhd” (the recording is available on the channel's website).
“You know, it seems to me that there is no need to reboot. As states of exceptional importance, we must maintain a dialogue with each other and continue to do so, ”Sullivan said, adding that diplomatic relations between Moscow and Washington are more than two hundred years old.
The diplomat also stressed that the authorities of the two states have “serious disagreements.” At the same time, on some of them, for example, on the START-3 treaty, “there has been progress”, so that, in general, relations between the countries are now better than during the Cold War.
“The ties between the citizens of the United States and Russia are now much more multifaceted than 30-40 years ago, when my predecessors, the US ambassadors, worked in conditions of tense relations with the Soviet Union,” the ambassador concluded.
On January 29, the US President's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the new US administration's relationship with Russia would be difficult and would require a lot of effort on the part of Washington. According to him, the new US President Joe Biden took a cold-blooded, firm and practical approach to relations with Moscow.
