The missile attack on facilities near the Iraqi Kurdistan capital came after Iran accused Israel of launching a missile attack that killed two of its generals in Syria, New Arab reported. Iran sent a letter to the UN Security Council, in which it stated that it reserves the right to respond to the “Israeli terrorist attack.”
Tehran said the two dead were in Syria to advise the Assad regime on “the fight against terrorism.” Iranian media report that the strikes were carried out on Mossad (Israeli intelligence) facilities in Iraqi Kurdistan.
As early as Thursday, March 10, in a letter to UN Security Council President and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Iran called on the international community to condemn the attack and hold Israel accountable.
The attack on the US base in Erbili was not the first Iranian attack on US infrastructure in Iraq. Back in 2020, the Iranian Islamic Guard Corps fired ballistic missiles at Al-Assad Air Base in Iraq in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, injuring and injuring US military personnel.
A US official confirmed to Reuters that there were no US soldiers killed in a missile attack on the city of Erbil in Iraq.
Recall that earlier, Iranian Supreme Spiritual Leader Ali Khamenei published on his official Twitter page a video entitled “Revenge is inevitable”, in which US ex-President Donald Trump becomes the target of a killer drone.
