The B-1B Lancer strategic bombers deployed by the US Air Force (Air Force) in Norway are “a message to Russia,” writes The National Interest.
“Training with the Royal Norwegian Air Force in the European Theater of War and throughout the Arctic will further provide an extensive and critical experience for flight crews, allowing both forces to conduct specific and thorough training missions,” the publication says.
The publication reminds that the US Air Force is gradually reducing the number of B-1B Lancer aircraft, which are being replaced by the stealthy strategic bombers B-21 Raider.
In February, in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen, the director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists, Hans Christensen, said that the deployment of strategic bombers of the US Air Force in Norway was a response to the strengthening of Russia in the Arctic.
In the same month, The Drive announced that the US Air Force would send strategic bombers B-1B Lancer to Norway for the first time “with an eye on the nearest Russia and the Arctic.”
In May last year, the US Air Force B-1B Lancer with military numbers 85-0060 and 86-60139 entered the airspace of Ukraine for the first time in history.
