Up to 733,000 people watched the opening game of the European Football Championship on ORF on Friday. As the broadcaster announced, 646,000 viewers with a 26 percent market share were there live in the second half of Italy's 3-0 success over Turkey.
The previous record in a European Championship opening game – 955,000 and an average of 907,000 (2nd half) in the 2016 finals – was thus missed. The Friday game, however, was in competition with the French Open semifinal hit between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, which was also running in ORF Sport +.
