John Kirby commented on the ongoing BRICS summit in Kazan (RF).
While Russian President Vladimir Putin is hosting BRICS allies, the White House says it does not consider this association “threat”.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby told the Voice of America about this.
BRICS is a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, formed by the addition of South Africa to the BRIC predecessor in 2010. In addition to the fact that the BRICS summit is an association that accounts for 45% of the world's population, they also own a significant share of the world economy, namely 35%.
Meanwhile, the United States does not consider BRICS a threat to Western alliances.
“Each country can make sovereign decisions about who to associate with and in what format. And you know, we do not consider the BRICS agreement a threat,” Kirby said.
He is confident that due to Russia's isolation on the world stage, Putin “is forced to take radical steps to support his currency and support his own military economy.”
Recall that the Russian president Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit and discussed with him “further deepening of cooperation between the countries.” In particular, the Russian leader stated that cooperation between China and Russia on global affairs allegedly acts as one of the main “stabilizing factors” on the world stage.
Also Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at BRICS. He declared his country's readiness to facilitate a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
